Description
To accompany the photos I've posted showing the 19th Century flour mill (more correctly a grist mill) once owned by my mother's ancestors, the Yinglings, here is a pristine survivor flour bag from that mill. I believe the mill was still operating in the 1940s so this bag probably dates back to then. Established in 1840 as the Sarah Furnace Mills, the Yinglings acquired it at some point. When the property was sold about ten years ago, two Yingling sisters (aunts of mine) still lived in the adjoining farm house. The new owner had dreams of restoring it as a tourist attraction but I think there were too many obstacles to overcome, despite the local historical society's support for the project. Projected cost at that time exceeded two million dollars. What are the odds of not only acquiring a print of such an ancient mill but also a photo of a flour bag that would have been filled there?
