This is an outstanding photo, Don. Fabulous artistic design quality that is timeless. Obviously!!! Bet today you see no hats and probably women in pants more than dresses; perhaps even ripped jeans. :-)

Don Struke replied:

Thank you, Sharon! If I may say so, even though I was quite lucky to get this shot with that artsy array of people and the near-perfect combination of pure white and dark lighting, it looks as good to me now as it did half a century ago. The presence of those two children is what makes this photo work, IMO.

Nice shot in b/w! I love Guggenheim museum and the architecture! Thank you for sharing your work here, I can enjoy it! Happy Holidays!!

Don Struke replied:

Well, Happy Holidays to you, Xueling! Thank you for your comments. As you see in my caption I took this photo when I was three weeks old, 51 years ago. Yikes! (I particularly value your comments because of your own artistry.)

Artist's Description

The Solomon Guggenheim Museum on New York City's Fifth Avenue was open barely a year when I took this photo in 1960. Whatever my camera was, I forget (after all I was just three weeks old) but it captured an image I've always liked, if I do say so myself. Look closely and you'll see a small child leaning over the ramp wall on the upper left, apparently trying to get the attention of the child on the lower right. Where are you both today, oh 60-plus year-olds?
NOTE: The Fine Art watermark visible in preview windows is not on any print.

About Don Struke

Don Struke

Although I don't call myself a photographer, I have taken thousands of photos through the years and now and then I end up with one that is printworthy. Well, at least by my standards, which might be somewhat less than the norm. But you are the judge (continued below). PLEASE CLICK ON AD TO LEARN ABOUT THIS SITE I'm fortunate enough to have enjoyed a rather varied background in marketing, advertising, public relations, print and electronic media, TV production, and publication design in both corporate and non-profit organizations. As my list of photos on Fine Art America slowly grows, it should be apparent that my interests are all over the place, from the sight of beautiful flowers and landscapes to aviation and high performance...
