Artist's Description
One of three of my photos of the centerpiece of the rather elaborate 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, the Palace of Fine Arts. Three views of some of the statuary also are posted here (the maidens). The Exposition was created for San Francisco to honor the discovery of the Pacific Ocean and the completion of the Panama Canal. Also celebrated was the rebirth of the city after the 1906 earthquake and fire. A visit to the palace today almost is a journey to another world, with its many statues seemingly wanting to tell you something about their presence there for nearly a century.
About Don Struke
Although I don't call myself a photographer, I have taken thousands of photos through the years and now and then I end up with one that is printworthy. Well, at least by my standards, which might be somewhat less than the norm. But you are the judge (continued below). PLEASE CLICK ON AD TO LEARN ABOUT THIS SITE I'm fortunate enough to have enjoyed a rather varied background in marketing, advertising, public relations, print and electronic media, TV production, and publication design in both corporate and non-profit organizations. As my list of photos on Fine Art America slowly grows, it should be apparent that my interests are all over the place, from the sight of beautiful flowers and landscapes to aviation and high performance...

Don Struke replied:
Thank you "severely", Delores! Yes, isn't the Palace grand? I try to include something about each of my images in the caption and this attraction is loaded with potential.

Sharon, thank you for your nice comment about my photo! When I think about the eye you have for art and your talent to create it, I appreciate it all the more, Yes, the Palace is quiet and remarkably restful.
