Founded in 1772 and named Ellicott's Mills for the three brothers from Pennsylvania who established a flour mill there (so correctly it should have been Ellicotts' Mills), Ellicott City has a downtown historic district favored by antiques shoppers. This building is one of the architectural gems to be seen. The 1830 Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Station nearby (visit the museum) was occupied by Federal troops on July 10, 1864, after the Battle of Monocacy during the American Civil War. AUGUST 22, 2012: My heart and prayers go out to the families and friends of A.M. and E.N., the 19-year-old women who were killed Sunday night in Ellicott City by a passing train that derailed.
