Description
(NOTE: The Fine Art America watermark seen in the preview windows does not appear on actual prints.)
Without question Graham Hill was one of the most accomplished racing drivers of his era and, perhaps, succeeding more because of his bravery and determination than because of the absolute skill some of his contemporary competitors had (such as Jackie Stewart). As you see on the bottom of the photo he won motor racing's Triple Crown, as explained there. I took this photo (which I have posterized lightly) about seven weeks before his death, on October 3, at the U.S. Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International Raceway, New York.
On November 29, 1975, while attempting to land his Piper Aztec in heavy fog near Elstree Airport in Northwest London, Hill and five members of his Embassy Hill Racing Team were killed when the plane crashed on Arkley Golf Course. They were returning from testing Hill's Grand Prix car in France, where his driver, Tony Brise, wrote it off in practice, unfortunately. They were on their way to a party in London.
