Description
James Hunt was one of the most colorful personalities ever to step into a Grand Prix race car and if you'd like to learn why this was, I suggest a look at his Wikipedia page. (While you're there, please consider a small donation to what is unarguably one of the Internet's most valuable resources.) . This photo is one of a series I was fortunate enough to take at the 1975 U.S. Grand Prix in Watkins Glen, New York (I was three years old - ahem - and quite a precocious photographer.)
James died at age 45, of a heart attack. At his funeral, Grand Prix driver Innes Ireland read Rudyard Kipling's poem "If" which includes these lines:
"If you can dream, and not make dreams your master;
If you can think, and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same."
To say there are no racing drivers like James Hunt today is more than an understatement.
NOTE: The Fine Art watermark visible in previews windows is not on any print. This is a small photo so only one small print is available, unfortunately.
